Exploratory 8MF Crime Scene Investigation

Exploratory 8MF Crime Scene Investigation

Fingerprints

We analyzed the ridges and patterns in our fingerprints, using ink pads.

Next, we looked at our fingerprints, using putty.

Tool Marks

We examined marks that tools leave behind at a crime scene, using putty.  We compared various screwdrivers to see if we could identify which tool left a specific mark.

Tire Tracks

We examined different tire tracks that could be left at a crime scene.  We used toy cars and ink pads, and we tested each other to see if we could match the tracks with the car.

Bite Marks

We compared the bite marks of students in our class by biting on Styrofoam plates.  We analyzed the marks left behind by our maxilla and mandible (upper and lower jaw).

DNA Models

We used licorice, marshmallows, toothpicks, tape, and paperclips to create a 3-dimensional model of the double helix structure of DNA.  We have been studying how DNA evidence affects investigations.
